Your Kid’s Next Binge-watch: #Annedroids

We all know that binge-watching is becoming more and more popular for adults!  And if your little one is like my oldest girl, she likes to binge-watch, too!  When we turn on Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood or  Tumble Leaf  on Amazon Prime, G is not satisfied to watch just one episode.  Oh, no, she needs to ask at the end of every episode to watch just one more!  But when you have watched all the episodes two or three (or five) times, you need something new to watch.  What’s next on your kid’s binge-watching list: Annedroids from Amazon Studios (available on Amazon Prime)!

Today, Amazon Prime released episodes for their latest kid series, Annedroids.  I got the opportunity to preview the first episodes of this series ahead of time and give you my opinion.

About the show:

Annedroids is a science based-action adventure series that follows eleven-old genius and kid-scientist Anne, who has invented and built her own amazing androids, and her friends and kid assistants Nick and Shania. Together the kids make amazing scientific discoveries and solve problems.  The show features Addison Holley (Miss Eliana from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood!) as Anne.  She is really charming and comes off very smart (if somewhat socially awkward).

The pilot episode introduces us to the new kid, Nick (played by Jadiel Dowlin) as he and his mom move into the neighborhood across from a junkyard.  He notices something unique about the junkyard that he can’t quite put his finger on.  After some strange events, he goes to investigate more and discovers the junkyard is the creative workspace of a kid-genius, Anne.  Along for the ride (and presumably the comic heart of the show) is neighbor, “Shania”, played by Adrianna DiLiello.

A parent’s perspective:

My husband and I previewed the first few episodes of Annedroids and decided the show has a definite 80’s kid – show feel to it.  It doesn’t feel modern, intentionally so.  In our day, kids are more likely to be found playing video games instead of exploring the scientific mysteries of building an android.  The sets are creatively designed puzzles to unlock in order to get into the inner sanctum of Anne’s laboratories.  And the androids are less-than-glossy CGI masterworks (again for a reason).

There is much to enjoy here and much for kids to get excited about.  And parents will enjoy the funny things sprinkled throughout the show (the appearance of one of our favorite funnymen in Episode 2 was a treat). There is some need to suspend disbelief in order to go along with the storyline, but for the most part the basic scientific concepts introduced here are sound.  As far as age-appropriate subject matter and dialogue, we didn’t see anything that would be inappropriate for the age group they are targeting with this show (4-7).

A kid’s review:

The only way to get a true review from our girl is to wait at the end of an episode.  If she wants to watch another one, it is a HIT!  And when we got to the end of the first episode, what did our G say?

“I want to watch another one!”

Binge watcher indeed!  We don’t let her watch more than two at a time, most days.  So at least we will have a few days before we get through all the episodes and then circle back through!   She was really excited about parts of the Annedroids and very enthusiastic about some of the sets (I guess she is interested in decor like me).

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

  1. We just started watching the first episode tonight so I was excited to see your review. We didn’t get all the way through it, but I thought it had an 80’s feel to it also. My kids seemed to enjoy it.
